The Bedtime Routine That Sparked a Whole New Creative Chapter

I never expected bedtime stories with my son to spark something this wild, but here I am dreaming up my own childrens book and feeling fired up in a way I did not see coming.

Reading has always been a special moment for us. The calm. The voices. The tiny hands turning the pages.

That simple ritual inspired me to start writing my own story for kids. Not just a book. I immediately started thinking in terms of a whole series. And since I cannot help myself creatively, it also includes designing a character from scratch.

The funny thing is that writing has never been my strongest skill. As a kid I struggled with dyslexia. I turned b's into d's and mixed up letters all the time while reading. It made school interesting to say the least. But writing things down helped me more than I ever expected. The older I get, the more I write. Ideas, concepts, personal thoughts, or just a tiny quote that hits at the right moment.

These days I read even more because of being a dad. And like everything in life, the more you do it, the easier it gets. Maybe it helps that I mostly read short childrens books, but still. The practice adds up.

Starting this project feels like a way to give dyslexia the finger in the most positive way possible. Because honestly, what is cooler than writing a book when reading and writing were once the biggest challenge. Creating something meaningful out of something that once held you back feels powerful.

In my next post about writing I will share more about the character I am creating and the ideas I have for the story. I am excited to take you along on this journey.
